DEFINITION OF DOCUJOURNAL A particular kind of short-form documentary of which reports a current event in the present-tense observational style, adhering to strict production techniques to provide narrative storytelling through objective journalism.

ABOUT Nashville Docujournal is an internet channel streaming free video content that blends short documentary with journalism. An alternative to traditional news outlets, stories are told in the present tense from the perspective of an individual affected by the headline news of the day. Nashville Docujournal operates independently and hopes to evolve into a sustainable platform that serves the communities of Middle Tennessee.

MISSION To find commonalities in seemingly disparate people.

"How can they know one another if they have forgotten or have never learned one another's stories? If they do not know one another's stories, how can they know whether or not to trust one another? People who do not trust one another do not help each other, and moreover they fear one another. And this is our predicament now." (Wendell Berry, What Are People For?)

HISTORY The Moving Picture Boys formed Nashville Docujournal in the Fall of 2011 to involve themselves with their community through experimental reporting in a style not typically associated with journalism.

NASHVILLE 2012 is a feature length documentary. The film is a compilation of docujournals created within the project's first year of operation.

PRESS "Capturing very specific moments in Nashville's present tense, these artfully shot black-and-white videos build a cumulative picture of a vibrant city in constant motion." (Steve Haruch, Best of Nashville, Nashville Scene)

"Their hope is that an increased dialogue will reveal a greater understanding between seemingly disparate groups and subcultures, allowing for the recognition of common struggles and dreams that all people share, regardless of race, income level or age. Ultimately, this understanding will encourage a stronger connection with our neighbors, building a stronger community." (Abby White, Nashville City Paper)
